Waste Planning and Environmental Permit
Heaton Planning can offer waste planning guidance and advice as well as the preparation and submission of waste planning applications for a variety of waste management facilities. We can also prepare applications for Environmental Permit or Waste Exemptions as required by the Environment Agency. We are familiar with the requirements of the Mining Waste Directive and have taken an active role in seeking to secure an Environmental Permit, as required by the Mining Waste Directive, for a new colliery spoil disposal site. Facilities that we have provided waste planning guidance, prepared and submitted planning applications with environmental statement where required include: waste recycling facilities, landfill, materials recovery facilities, waste transfer stations, composting, colliery spoil disposal and waste water treatment.
In providing waste planning guidance and advice Heaton Planning pay full regard to the planning policy guidance provided at National level in Planning Policy Statement 10 (PPS10). The aim of PPS10 is moving the management of waste up the ‘waste hierarchy’ of reduction, reuse, recycling and composting, using waste as a source of energy, and only disposing as a last resort.
EU Mining Directive: mineral and waste operators need to be aware that the implementation of this directive may have implications to their current operations of how they handle and treat waste arising from their quarrying activities. Dependant on the type of operations – existing sites/ operations will have to apply to the Environment Agency for an Environmental Permit by either 30 December 2010 or 1 May 2011.
