Energy Infrastructure Development

Heaton Planning have provided planning and environmental services for a large scale clean coal energy generation project involving carbon capture and storage.  The company has considerable experience in obtaining consents (S36 and S37) for energy infrastructure and has a good working relationship with the Department for Energy and Climate Change.

Hatfield Power Station, Doncaster – S36 Consent for a 900MW Clean Coal Technology Power Station

Heaton Planning – have provided planning guidance and environmental services to Powerfuel in the delivery of energy infrastructure as part of their Power Park Development.  Heaton Planning was commissioned to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), to prepare and submit a Planning Application and Environmental Statement for a 900MW clean coal technology power station.  In 2009, Heaton Planning secured S36 Consent from DECC for a 900MW Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Power Plant with carbon capture.  This will be the world’s first large scale IGCC power plant with near zero emissions and has been endorsed by the UK Government and European Union.

Hatfield Power Station, Doncaster – S37 Consent for Overhead Electricity Powerlines

Heaton Planning – have undertaken an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and prepared and submitted a Planning Application and Environmental Statement for a 9.5km dual circuit 400kV overhead line from Hatfield Power Plant to Thorpe Marsh Substation.  Determination will be made by the Department of Energy and Climate Change following a recent positive consideration by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council.

Welton Oil Gathering Centre, Lincolnshire – Gas Storage Scheme

Client: Lincolnshire County Council

Provision of planning advice and case management on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council on proposals for an underground gas storage scheme.  Work included the preparation of a substantial report to the Council’s Planning Committee and briefings for the Planning Committee.
