Heatons are very pleased to share that we have secured planning permission for an Alternative Fuel Platform and Conveyor Feed for Cauldon Cement Plant, operated by Lafarge Cauldon. We worked with the client and managed a team of specialists to develop a design for the proposals that incorporates a laboratory, storage hall, liquid fuel tanks, and a new elevated conveyor over public highway to feed fuels from the new site directly into the Cement Plant.

The planning permission enables the Cement Plant to substitute the use of coal for more sustainable waste-derived fuels, therefore providing significant environmental benefits including removing over 30,000 tonnes of CO2 from the Plant’s annual emissions. We successfully argued that the environmental and economic benefits of the scheme outweighed the slight increase in traffic movements associated with fuel delivery as well as any visual impact on the nearby Peak District National Park.
