To kick off our new weekly updates, this week we’ve secured planning permission for another major Minerals application on behalf of a nationally recognised mineral operator. Heatons prepared a comprehensive Environmental Statement to support the application, and the permission secures the continued winning and working of silica sand from the Mundays Hill Quarry, encompassing a review of old mineral permissions (ROMP) and a 4-hectare extension to the quarry. Our application provided a comprehensive restoration strategy for the entire Eastern Way Quarry complex covering Mundays Hill, Double Arches and Nine Acres quarries, as well as the entire Churchways complex. The approved restoration scheme will see the return of circa 240 hectares of quarried land to agricultural fields, meadow and woodland which will collectively provide suitable habitats for a range of species in the long term. Photo credit: chrisandrew314 (Flickr)
